James Rodriguez is the perfect replacement for Mesut Özil

Arsenal are eyeing a shock move for Real Madrid attacking midfielder James Rodriguez as a replacement for German star Mesut Ozil, according to a report.

The Colombian midfielder is currently 18 months into a two-year loan at Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich but the star’s out of favour under Niko Kovac.
Unai Emery is interested in selling Ozil to free up funds at the Emirates Stadium but Arsenal have received little interest for the playmaker and his £300,000-a-week pages are a huge stumbling block.
Bayern Munich paid around Real Madrid a loan sum of around £12m to land Rodriguez in 2017 but the Daily Mail state they’re happy for the Gunners to cover the final six months of his contract to take him to North London.
That would amount to around £3 million and would make a smart stop-gap as the club look to offload Mesut.

Die Roten have the option of landing Rodriguez permanently for close to £40 million but they’re unlikely to do so while Kovac remains in charge.
Unai admitted last week that the Gunners do not have the funds to sign anyone permanently this January but they could afford a loan fee for James.
