Forget Xhaka, New summer signing more energetic - Ray Parlour

Ray Parlour believes new Arsenal signing Matteo Guendouzi brings more energy and mobility to Unai Emery’s midfield than Granit Xhaka.

The Switzerland international has struggled to make a positive impression on the Arsenal side since his £33m move to the Gunners from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.

Xhaka signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal in the summer despite two underwhelming seasons at the the north London side following Emery’s appointment as Arsene Wenger’s replacement.

The new Gunners boss signed French teenager Guendouzi from Ligue 1 side Lorient in the summer transfer window to improve their midfield options ahead of the new season.

The 19-year-old earned praise for his performances in Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium earlier this month.

The summer signing attracted further compliments for his tenacious display in a 3-2 defeat by derby rivals Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League last weekend.

Former Arsenal star Parlour explained what Gueundouzi does better than Xhaka in the Gunners team.

Arsenal finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table last term to continue their regression under Arsene Wenger.

His replacement Emery signed five new players in the summer transfer window.
