Granit Xhaka tipped to be future Captain

Arsenal fans have a lot of scapegoats that they turn to when their results are below par and, more often than not, Granit Xhaka is one of them. However, yesterday the Swiss midfielder was getting all the plaudits for the role he played in the Gunners 2-0 win over Southampton as Unai Emery’s side climbed back into the Premier League top four.

When Xhaka has been partnering Lucas Torreira this season the midfielder has been a fierce competitor and the pairing of the two in midfield works wonders for Arsenal. This season has seen a definite improvement in the Gunners’ often rash and lazy 26-year-old midfield general and he looks like a player who could well be ready to step up and take on more responsibility in this Arsenal side.

At times last season, as Arsene Wenger neared the end of his tenure, he would trust Xhaka with the captain’s armband. This season has seen Emery follow suit in that, and whilst he may have only donned the armband four times in the Premier League the fans are still enjoying watching the ex-Borussia Monchengladbach man star for them.

Arsenal fans are loving Xhaka’s current form and will hope the Swiss midfielder can star for them in their weekend clash with Tottenham in five days time.
