According to Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal are closing in on signing Ever Banega with the Sevilla midfielder’s agent in London to hold talks about a potential transfer.
Emery and Banega worked together in Spain’s La Liga at Sevilla.
The Gunners are keen to add experience to their ranks and are in the market for a new midfielder as they prepare for Aaron Ramsey’s exit at the end of the season.
Emery knows Banega, 30, well from his time in Spain, and the midfielder would only set the Gunners back his £18million release clause.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Banega has recently brought in new representatives as he seeks a move to the Premier League, with his agent spending time in London over the festive period to finalise a deal with the Gunners.
Banega is now in his second spell with Sevilla, having also spent time at Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.
