Mesut Ozil has underlined his desire to silence his critics at Arsenal.
The former Germany international has been a divisive character at the north London side over the past few seasons due to his inconsistent performances.
Ozil’s talent is clear but the World Cup winner has often struggled to leave a mark on Arsenal’s biggest games against their direct title rivals, much to the frustration of Gunners fans.
The 29-year-old was accused of coasting under Arsene Wenger after the French head coach signed Ozil in a £42.5m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the 2013 summer transfer window.
The Arsenal playmaker has won three FA Cups during his first four seasons at Arsenal, before the German star put pen to paper on the biggest contract in the north London side’s history in February.
However, Wenger’s replacement Unai Emery hasn’t hesitated to drop the former Schalke man in the Premier League this season despite his big reputation and lavish wages.
And Ozil, who called time on his international career after the 2018 World Cup in Russia, took to Instagram to direct a message to his critics on Wednesday night.
Ozil wrote on his Instagram page: “Believe while others are doubting 🙏🏼 #M1Ö #faith”
The Arsenal number 10 has scored two goals in six games in the Premier League so far, but the German star is still to make his first assist of the campaign.
Ozil will be hoping to secure a starting spot when Arsenal return to action against Leicester City at The Emirates on Monday 22 October.
The Gunners star has netted 40 times in 203 games in all competitions since his move to Arsenal from La Liga in the past five years.
The north London side are in fourth place in the Premier League table following an impressive six-game winning run under Spanish head coach Emery.
Arsenal haven’t qualified for the Champions League in the last two seasons.
