Arsenal hopes of signing Thomas Lemar have suffered a huge blow after Monaco vice president Vadim Vasilyev ruled out selling the midfielder this summer.
The Gunners have been working on a deal to sign Lemar all summer but are yet to be successful because Monaco do not want to lose anymore member of their title winning squad.
Wenger wasn’t put off by that and he was said to be lining up a third bid but Monaco have now confirmed any new approach is set for failure as they have no intention of selling.
When addressing Lemar’s future, Vadim said via theIndependent:
“We have kept all of the key players that we intended to keep,” Vasilyev said. “I will address speculation relating to the case of (Thomas) Lemar.
“He is staying with us. He is an immense talent and is essential for the team.”
This will come as a huge blow to Arsene Wenger who had made signing Lemar his priority.
Arsenal will now have to turn its attention to other target, with Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez one of those under consideration.
Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette are Arsenal’s only summer arrival so far but Wenger is expected to continue working on further signings but it appears Lemar won’t be one of those.
