Arsene Wenger has insisted that the speculation linking Alexis Sanchez with a move from Arsenal to Paris Saint-Germain is “only media imagination”.
The Chile international’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent weeks due to the fact that both he and Mesut Ozil have entered into the final 12 months of their contracts.
It remains to be seen whether Sanchez will sign a new contract with the north London club, with the 28-year-old due to report back for pre-season training at the end of the month.
Sanchez has been touted as a possible target for Paris Saint-Germain in recent days as the speculation about his future continues.
However, Wenger moved to dismiss those claims after the Gunners’ 3-0 loss to Chelsea in their pre-season friendly on Saturday.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Wenger simply said: “It’s only media imagination. No, it doesn’t make any difference [if it’s a foreign club that wants to sign him].”
Arsenal are set to have to make do without Champions League football next season after they finished fifth in the table last term.
The north London side did end last season on a high, however, beating Chelsea 2-1 to win the FA Cup at Wembley.
